mold

An Indigenous man’s life takes a dark turn when a mysterious fungus begins infesting his home…and mind. Living alone in a big city far from home in a rundown house, our protagonist spends most of his free time getting drunk in his bathtub, trying to relax. While reaching for his bath pillow, he notices a small patch of mold growing in the corner where the pillow had been. He thinks nothing of it. From this point forward, the fungi festers and spreads quickly. He notices it on his bread and merely tears off the mold and continues eating. He doesn’t exercise, he hardly goes outside, he drinks too much, and doesn’t clean up after himself. The less he does to take care of himself, the more the mold spreads. It gets to the point where he knows he can no longer live like this, he needs to make an effort to clean the fungus. He gets gloves, buckets of suds, mold killing sprays, and begins cleaning. He scrubs and scrubs away at the fungus but there’s no use, it's growing at a rate he cannot keep up with. Much like the mental illness that this fungus represents, our protagonist needs professional help to overcome his struggles.
